Garage Floor Covering
If you've
ever seen one, you instantly walk away making it a goal
to get yourself a garage floor covering. By using
garage floor covering you can instantly transform
your dull and boring garage into a "new" living
environment. Garage floor covering will increase the
value of your garage and home instantly. You will get a
good return on your investment and if you use a garage floor
covering that is not epoxy or paint, you can take it with
you. No kidding.
Improving
the look of your garage and providing a layer of protection
against concrete cracking or oil stains is easily attainable
in one day or less. As a homeowner you have plenty
of options available to you. The three main garage
floors you can invest in are: epoxy, tile and mat.
Epoxy
painting your garage floor is a process that can be accomplished
in one weekend. Depending on what level of epoxy want,
it will be a quick coat, 2 layer or 3 layer process. The
fastest way to cover your garage floors is a garage floor
mat. Garage floor mats are the cheapest way to keep
spills and water contained and the simpliest to install.
Tiles are a great choice for those who want to add
patterns to their garage floors. Stuck in between
epoxy and mats, garage floor tiles are mid priced compared
to the other two floor coverings.
Garage
covers will improve the look and functionality of your garage.
Depending on your choice of covers the durability of a covering
is exceptional. As you compare guarantee's you'll find some
mats with up to a 5 year warranty. Tiles usually have a
guarantee that starts at 10 years and runs all the way up
to 30 years. Paint or epoxy will last a lifetime if
you take care of it. Yes, all three coverings will
show wear and tear but tiles can instanly be replaced to
keep your garage looking fresh.
Epoxy
garage floors usually do not have patterns because the paint
is smooth buy my neighbor sprinkled dried paint chips on
the epoxy to help create a non-slip surface. Tile
garage floors come in multitude of patterns ranging from
coin patterns, to ribbed patterns (great for channeling
water or other liquids), Levant patterns and Diamond patterns.
There are more options available to you and keep in
mind these same patterns are available with garage floor
mats.

One
other thing we should mention about garage floor tiles is
the fact you can get them in either vinyl or rubber. These
tiles can be found in sizes ranging from 12" x 12"
all the way up to 19.5" x 19.5". Thickness
will greatly depend upon if the tile is solid or hollow.
Solid core tiles are always heavier and last a lot
longer therefore you will see a longer warranty on them.
Lastly, if you're thinking like I did when I first started
looking for garage tiles, rubber is not the kind of rubber
you are thinking. It's more towards a poly plastic/pvc type
of rubber.

You
will find different names associated with garage floor coverings
ranging from BLT to Race Dek to VersaCourt to Armor and
many others.
I can
say that you will definitely enjoy the comments you will
receive from everyone who ever sees your garage floor and
chances are really good that someone will want to do the
same thing. I know it happened in our neighborhood and I
can't see why it won't happen elsewhere.
